HUFS Prof. Kim Jin-ah named as UN Secretary-General's disarmament advisor

Prof. Kim is the third South Korean to be appointed to the UN post

UNJournal Jon Lee | Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS) announced on Dec. 7 that Prof. Kim Jin-ah of the LD Department of the university has been appointed as a member of the UN Advisory Board on Disarmament Matters under the umbrella of UN Secretary-General António Guterres. 

 

The UN Advisory Board on Disarmament Matters, established by agreement of the UN General Assembly in 1978, consists of 15 ambassadors and civilian experts.

 

 

Prof. Kim is the third South Korean and first civilian to be appointed to the member of the UN Advisory Board on Disarmament Matters.

 

Beginning her term in January 2024, Prof. Kim will participate in the bi-annual meetings of the Council and the Board of Directors of the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) to discuss disarmament and non-proliferation issues and submit advisory opinions to the Secretary-General.

 

Prof. Kim holds a PhD in international relations from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, USA. She has served as a policy advisor to the Ministry of National Defense, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and the Air Force, and as a standing member of the National Advisory Council for Democratic Peace and Reconciliation, and is currently the Dean of the Faculty of LD at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies.
