On February 25, 2024, a Single voting day was held in the Republic of Belarus as part of the elections to the National Parliament.

During this significant event for the entire State, members of the House of Representatives (lower House of the Parliament) and Local Councils were elected.

Later this year, state elections will be held for members of the Council of the Republic, representatives of civil society organizations for the All-Belarusian People's Assembly, and deputies to Local Councils.

In the context of 2024 Belarusian parliamentary elections, Andrew Chernetsky, the ambassador of Belarus to the Republic of Korea, gave a statement: “The electoral process is an integral part of the sustainable functioning of the State. Within the framework of the global agenda, Belarus is consistently taking a number of steps to achieve such important universal goals of the world community as gender equality and women empowerment in politics.

Today, our country ranks among the leaders when it comes to the percentage of women in the public administration and political sphere. As of 2020, women in Belarus occupied 49.1% of legislators, senior civil servants and managers.

This is the highest percentage among other countries1.  At the same time, according to the statistics from the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, 40% of member in the National Parliament of Belarus are female politicians.

This reflects the progress of our State in the global endeavor to increase the role of women in politics. We welcome the efforts of the Republic of Korea to enhance the representation of women in government and we are much convinced that this is one of the primary goals of the joint efforts of all nations”.
