Jeju City Mayor Kang Byung-sam met with officials from Wakayama City, Japan, a sister city of Jeju Island, at his office on May 20 to discuss ways to promote friendship and cooperation between Jeju City and Wakayama City.

The meeting was organized as Wakayama, which has a sister city relationship with Jeju, visited the 28th Jeju International Tourism Marathon held on May 19 at Gujwa Sports Complex.

During the meeting, the mayor encouraged the Wakayama athletes for their excellent performance in the marathon and sought ways to expand exchanges between the two cities.

“I sincerely congratulate Mr. and Mrs. Takahashi, who won first place in the 10-kilometer and half-course, and all the Wakayama athletes who did their best,” said Jeju City Mayor Kang Byung-sam.

“I hope that we can become a closer and friendlier sister city by expanding cooperation in various fields, including sports exchanges, which we have been doing steadily since 2003.”

Wakayama City is a rural city with a mild climate and vast plains, and is popular as a vacation destination for its abundant natural attractions, and has been engaged in tourism, culture, and sports exchanges with Jeju City since 1987.
