The Daegu Detention Center (Director Kim Young-gwang) held a donation ceremony for 15 artworks from the World Peace Art Exhibition Organizing Committee (Chairman Lee Jon-young) on Nov. 11.

The event was held in response to a proposal by the World Peace Art Exhibition Organizing Committee to donate artworks to help inmates' psychological stability and correctional edification.

“I hope that the donated artworks will provide a small comfort and sanctuary for those who are living in prison,” said Chairman Lee at the donation ceremony. He said he decided to make the donation with the hope that the inmates would find emotional stability through art, and that it would help them to be edified and re-socialized.

Kim Young-kwang, director of the Daegu Detention Center, said the donation will provide great strength to the inmates, who are physically and mentally exhausted, and presented a certificate of appreciation to Chairman Lee and the officials who attended the donation ceremony. 

“The donated artworks will have a positive impact on the inmates in the correctional facility,” Kim said, ”and we ask for your continued interest and support for inmate welfare and correctional administration.”

The Daegu Detention Center plans to utilize the donated artworks by placing them in places where they can be easily accessed by inmates to provide them with a sense of psychological stability in their prison life. 

The donation ceremony is expected to be an opportunity for inmates to experience new perspectives through art and help them recover emotionally and reflect on themselves.
