Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Hyun, currently visiting the United States, met with Hudson Institute President John Walters and other leaders on July 31, 2025. They outlined the new Korean administration's foreign policy and exchanged opinions on ways to develop the ROK-US alliance.

Minister Cho explained that the new administration seeks to build a globally responsible powerhouse that can effectively address changing global order under a pragmatic approach. He added that in doing so, the government plans to continue strengthening the ROK-US alliance and ROK-US-Japan cooperation, the foundation of its foreign policy.

Minister Cho specifically stated that the government plans to develop the ROK-US alliance into a "future-oriented comprehensive strategic alliance" while continuing to contribute to the alliance.

He also urged the Hudson Institute, a leading think tank in Washington, D.C., to continue supporting the ROK-US alliance and its role in furthering its development.

President Walters welcomed Minister Cho's visit to the US and expressed high expectations for the new South Korean government. He pledged that the Hudson Institute would work to raise awareness of the ROK-US alliance in the US and the world so that it can be further strengthened amidst the rapidly changing diplomatic and security environment.

Walters also agreed that the two countries have significant potential for cooperation not only in security and economic areas but also in future areas such as shipbuilding, AI, and energy.

He added that the Hudson Institute would provide unwavering support to expand cooperation, including identifying specific ways to cooperate in these areas.
