UNJournal Lee Sung Jun | The Embassy of India in Seoul, in collaboration with Viveka Yoga, will host a public celebration of the 12th United Nations International Day of Yoga on June 21, 2026, at Gwanghwamun Square in Jongno-gu, Seoul. The event is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m.

First proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in 2014 and observed annually on June 21, the International Day of Yoga has grown into one of the world's most widely participated wellness observances. This year's Seoul event marks the 12th edition of the global commemoration.
The programme will guide participants through a series of foundational yoga practices, including pranayama (breathing techniques), asanas (postures), and meditation — disciplines rooted in an Indian tradition spanning more than 3,000 years. Organisers describe the session as an opportunity for attendees to embark on what they call a "transformative journey" toward physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.
Gwanghwamun Square, situated at the heart of central Seoul and one of the South Korean capital's most prominent civic spaces, provides a fitting backdrop for an occasion intended to be open and accessible to all. Members of the public, along with diplomatic guests and their families, are welcome to attend.
International Day of Yoga has been celebrated across South Korea in previous years with growing public participation, reflecting the expanding interest in yoga and mindfulness practices among Korean communities. The collaboration with Viveka Yoga, a Seoul-based yoga institution, underscores the role of people-to-people and cultural ties in strengthening the bilateral relationship between India and the Republic of Korea.
